vocally, these are the chops of a young man. donald really sells it.

outcroppings of my ... er... private property, if you take my meaning.

Never mind the shoe-bombers, here's Security Joan.

Just a thought, when musical artists have done a few sucessful albums no-one
dares to question there musical integrity. Almost everyone is on the
payroll.

Dontcha just love these 30 second clips.

ya know, every time someone mentions these clips I have to go listen to
them again.

and every time i do, i get more excited about the album.

Donald has paid his dues and has created a body of work second to no
one's in the rock'n'roll pantheon. with Steely Dan, he co-created a
sound no one ever had before or imitated since.

but even an idol can have clay feet and no one expects perfection all
the time.

but with this record, i feel Donald has vaulted over his own bar. I
know I've only heard the bits, but if it's as good as it sounds to me
in bits and pieces, this CD will get as much play as Nightfly.

that's a bold statement for me. but my appetite has been whetted, and i
can't imagine a thing that would spoil my anticipation... it could only
be better than what i have already heard.

i do hope it works like that for you, tim, and john and everyone else
who's initially disappointed.

The clips indicate to me a much more open production and compositional
style, far more like the Nightfly than Kama or TvN. The harmonies
tight with background vocals are mostly Donald and Carolyn Leonhart.
Keith Carlock sounds a lot more relaxed than on EMG. Freddie
Washington steadies the rhtym section with a might bad**s bass. The
mix is excellent. Vocals up fron and center. Instrument separation
was good on EMG, but even

The melodies lyrical, as opposed to simply rhythmic with the exception
of Brite Nitegown with the funky Prince groove. I hear more Cole
Porter and Gershwin and Bacharach than before.

MTC,more than Kama, TvN, and EMG, may rank with Nigthfly, Aja, Katy
Lied.

The melodies and Fagen's vocals in the 30 sec snippets are brave
indeed,
particularly on What I Do, Great Pagoda of Funn, The Night Belongs to
Mona, and Mary Shut the Garden Door...Frankly there's more in the 30
sec Mona and Mary clips that there is in most artists entire careers.
I truly believe Mona *could* be as good a song as Doctor Wu - and
that's my personal fav

"...while the city sleeps
That's when she comes alive
Yes, the night belongs to Mona
when she's dancing all alone
Forty floors above the city
CD spinning
A/C humming..."

"...I woke up
sensed the new condition
May 1
Storms rage
Things change forever..."
