Hyperbole begets hyperbole.
It's enough already. Point taken and argued well and loudly. Nothing
left now except the insults and catcalls.
Here are the simple facts:
The SD homepage has been updated touting the joint tour.
They are using words like "reunion" and referring to MM as a bandmate
from the 70s.
The news release reads: Five-time Grammy winner MICHAEL MCDONALD'S
distinctively soulful voice first emerged in the 1970's as a vocalist
in Steely Dan.
All the references are positive. It's happening. And a whole lot of
fans are really excited about it because we all have this big hardon
for that early and remarkable body of work with all the great session
players and Michael McDonald's backing vocals.
As I mentioned earlier, there is certainly potential to perform Kid
Charlemagne, Peg, Bad Sneakers, Black Friday, I Got the News, Time Out
of Mind and the redefined Pretzel Logic--7 songs that get me hot.
A cynic might call this nostalgia. I call it pushing ahead with brass
balls. Here are several men in their mid-to-late 50s getting back
together to see if they can still make music that good. And I know they
can, unlike dozens of other reuniting bands who have blown their wads
long ago.
Donald proved he still has amazing vocal strength on Morph. Mike has
only gotten better with age, but he's still got it, too. Steely Dan:
doesn't play well with others, as demonstrated in the Hall of Fame
induction performance--GHASTLY!!! with Paul Shaffer and ... Kid Rock or
some fucken asshole? What a mess. But they DO play well with Mike.
Anyway, it's on, it's happening, and no amount of detracting will
change it, so can we let it rest already? C, you may loathe MM, but
that isn't going to stop the rest of us from scoring a big win this
summer with the double bill. And if you attend, I'm sure it will be a
win-win.
This is a dream-come-true for me, so no amount of carping about whether
or not MM has sold out can penetrate the tremendous shine on me. This
is once in a lifetime. I never thought this would happen. I'm psyched
beyond expression.
